Resources For You Resources For You : Self Image

Self Image refers to the way people evaluate themselves as human beings. It is certainly one of the major factors in weight maintenance.

In analysing the responses of over one hundred patients, we found that 80% of overweight people have self-image problems of a serious nature, from not feeling as good about themselves as they should to complete self-loathing. Since human beings tend to take care of the things and people they love, a good self-image is obviously of great importance. Without self-respect and love, there is little chance of success.

Try to avoid statements like, “I should lose weight” or “I should get started on my diet” as these types of statements usually don’t work and in fact often make you feel resentful, guilty and prevent you from getting started on your weight control plan. Change your new self talk to a more positive approach such as “I choose to be slim, healthy, energetic and attractive and I know what I weigh and how I feel, is entirely up to me".
